About János
My name is János Gabris and I am a Hungarian composer and pianist. I started playing piano when I was three years old after seeing a friend of my parents play. He was the one who introduced me to Franz Liszt, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frederic Chopin. One of the most fascinating experiences in my life was when I was accepted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where I could learn more about my craft in a prestigious environment.
I started composing when I tried to make my piano exercises more intricate and complex. It wasn’t until one of my classmates pointed out that I had composed actual music that I realized that my calling was to be a composer as well. It’s strange when you think of yourself as a composer because you find out that music is everywhere and that you are the scribe that is transcribing them to the page.
One of my first jobs when I moved to the U.S. was to create music for a ballet dancer so that she could perform in a banquet hall. Unfortunately, she and I did not get along and spent most of the week fighting with each other instead of working together. However, we managed to create something beautiful and the banquet recital was a success. That difficult ballet dancer was none other than my best friend Tatiana Belova, and she and I have been traveling around the world ever since.
